Matthew French – Associate
Matt is an associate attorney at Brockett & McNeel, LLP licensed in all Texas State Courts and New Mexico Federal Courts. His practice consists primarily of General Commercial Litigation, Oil and Gas Litigation, Construction Litigation, and General Business Transactions. Prior to making Midland home, Matt started his legal career as an Assistant District Attorney for the 34th Judicial District out of El Paso, Texas, where he represented the State of Texas in criminal jury trials.

General Commercial Litigation
Matt has experience litigating commercial and contractual disputes. He has successfully resolved lawsuits through trial, summary judgment and voluntary settlement for individuals, corporations, and governmental entities in cases involving contract disputes, breach of fiduciary duty, collection matters, products liability, commercial tort/DTPA lawsuits, fraud, misrepresentation and oil and gas lease termination.
Oil and Gas Litigation
Matt devotes a substantial portion of his practice to representing clients involved in oil and gas related disputes. On behalf of both corporate and individual clients, he both prosecutes and defends suits involving operating agreements, unit agreements, master service agreements, right of way acquisition and condemnation actions, surface use issues, and royalty payment disputes.
General Business Transactions
Matt counsels clients in the structure and formation of business entities and represents clients in various forms of reorganization, including mergers, conversion, and dissolution. He also represents clients in a wide variety of business transactions of all sizes.
Matt received his BBA from the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas, where he was the Captain of the Men’s Golf Team and an All-Regional Selection and an individual qualifier for the NCAA Regional Men’s Golf Tournament. After graduating from UIW and prior to attending law school, he was the Men and Women’s Golf Coach at UIW and the owner of a small business in San Antonio. Originally from San Antonio, Texas, Matt has lived all over the United States having grown up in a military home. He is very proud of his family military background. His mother is currently a Command Sergeant Major in the United States Army.
Matt is actively involved in the Midland community as a provider of pro bono services and commits his time to various efforts that benefit Texas Veterans and individuals with Autism. In his free time, you will find Matt on the golf course or with his English Sheepdog Bailey, who you can often find sleeping in his office at Brockett & McNeel, LLP.
